Spinal surgery consists of carrying out a surgical intervention in order to correct possible structural anomalies.
Back injuries, and more specifically those of the spine affect more people. Over the years, accidents, overexertion and bad posture are the causes that cause a problem.
Back surgery is an option to consider when conservative treatments have not worked and the pain remains persistent and prevents the development of a normal life.
Some procedures performed with back surgery are:
Discectomy: It consists of removing the herniated part of the disc to access the inflamed nerve and relieve its irritation.
Laminectomy: With this procedure, the bone that covers the vertebrae is removed and enlarged, to relieve the pressure caused.
Spinal Fusion: It consists of joining two or more bones of the spine. With this, pain can be alleviated by giving stability to a fracture or simply to eliminate the pain generated by an injury.
Disc Implant: This procedure cannot be used in everyone but exists as an alternative to spinal fusion.
